Garden Design Lymington, Hampshire

The clients wanted a garden to compliment the Provence style of the house.  A traditional planting scheme of soft pastels, bringing colour and structure to the garden all year round.

An oak arch lies at the end of a axis that runs from the house to the vegetable garden, a large attractive terracotta pot providing a  strong focal point.    The oak arch connects to the house area of the garden as its designs mirrors the strong oak arbour created to give a shady space in summer and support for a very old wisteria.

The garden design allows ample space in a good sunny position for growing fresh vegetables and a greenhouse.

The garden is south facing and a lovely sun terrace ensures that throughout the seasons the garden can be used for dining or a quick cup of coffee. This garden was completed in early summer 2010.

The Verbena bonariensis have quickly established to provide height and colour and attracted a good number of butterflies and insects into the garden.

The solid, green oak arch and bespoke arbour was designed by us and were then built to specifications by Oakcraft at Holmsley Mill.  The existing mature wisteria finally has something as beautiful and strong as itself to rest on.

The oak arbour provides a shady spot for hot summer days and the south facing terrace provides further dining space for evenings and cooler days.

After only 6 months the wisteria has started to cover the stunning overhead oak beams. The stunning Japanese Anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’ flowers for many months and is easy to maintain, while the pergola is already beginning to weather to a soft, silvery grey.
