Project Description

Bali Design Excellence Principal Winner 2013. As featured in Great Garden Design, Love Your Garden and a number of magazines.
We are delighted to report that BALI have awarded this project Design Excellence Principal Winner in the BALI Awards 2013.

We have created a beautiful country garden for a family home in the New Forest that looks good over the seasons.  The courtyard and entrance garden opens out to reveal lovely views of the heathland and forest that change as you explore the garden.A number of new trees have been planted to frame views to add to this sense of exploration and provide privacy.

The ‘drunken path’ looks good day or night . At night the light ripples across the surface of the Purbeck stone pitchers like water. The planting is soft and naturalistic in style, becoming wilder as you move closer to the open heathland. The grasses and herbaceous perennial mix catch the breeze. The heights carefully structured to enclose and define the spaces between.

The entrance garden is constructed from Purbeck stone pitchers and Portland Stone Bowers Roach. The Bowers Roach has a lovely texture with many shells and fossils within the stone. The circular seating area leads to the large terrace of Portland stone for comfortable dining and relaxing close to the house. This in turn is connected with gently curving lawns and grass paths to the dry stone seat constructed from local Purbeck stone.

The seat overlooks the open heathland and forest, with a meadow within the garden increasing the sense of connection and sense of place.

The garden has appeared in ‘Great Garden Design’ by Ian Hodgson published in 2015 by Frances Lincoln and in August 2015 the garden was the ‘inspirational’ garden for an episode of Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh and the team.

“The benchmark of excellence set by the adjudication panel is always extremely high and the exemplary standards of professional excellence you have achieved with your award entry in your award category is a credit to you and to those who have been instrumental in delivering your quality scheme”  Wayne Grills BALI Chief Operations Officer Judges comments: “The quality of the design submission was excellent with bespoke CAD drawings, complex planting plan, an excellent overview layout and copious amounts of information for the contractor building the garden. This is a very transformative scheme that makes excellent use of the space.” BALI
