Farnham Modern Garden

This new, cleverly renovated and re-imagined house sits at the top of a steep bank. The ground rises from the valley floor and the house faces the mature woodland opposite. The house consists of a number of layers, each with its own masses and voids, jutting into and away from the landscape. The whole rising asymmetrically. The building is an incredibly successful response by the architect, Kate Stoddard, to the design brief. And yet there existed a tension between this new house and the landscape which our design needed to resolve. A series of terraces reflect this layering and anchor the house, both then continue to ‘roll’ down the slope. A soft landing.
This is a new garden, the last phase of the planting completed in Autumn 2025, following completion of the construction in the summer.
